Dr. Pramod Kumar Pal obtained MBBS degree from Calcutta Medical College, MD (Medicine) from PGIMER, Chandigarh and DM (Neurology) from the National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Bangalore, India. He joined as a Clinical Fellow in Movement Disorders at the Neurodegenerative Disorders Centre, Vancouver, Canada and later obtained further training, as a clinical fellow in Electrophysiology in Movement Disorders, Human Motor Control and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation at Toronto Western Hospital, Toronto Canada. In January, 2000, Dr. Pal joined the Department of Neurology, NIMHANS as a Faculty and is currently Professor of Neurology. In addition he is the Program Director of the post-doctoral Fellowship Program in Movement Disorders.
His areas of interest are Parkinson’s disease, dystonias, essential tremor, progressive supranuclear palsy, rare movement disorders, psychogenic movement disorders, spinocerebellar ataxias, secondary movement disorders, Human Motor physiology and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, advanced neuroimaging (structural and functional) and cognition in movement disorders. He mentors several DM and PhD students in Neurology and has more than 340 publications in National and International journals and Books.
Dr. Pal was the Founding Secretary of the Movement Disorders Society of India, past President and Treasurer of Indian Academy of Neurology, and past secretary of Neuromodulation Society (India). He served as member of the Education Committees of MDS-AOS & and in the Editorial Boards of Movement Disorders and PARDS journals. Currently he is the President of the Parkinson’s Disease Society of Karnataka, Secretary of the MDS-AOS and, Editor-in-Chief of Annals of Movement Disorders, Chair of the Infection Related Movement Disorders Study Group and Vice-Chair of the Education Committee of International Parkinson and Movement Disorder Society (IPMDS), member of Education Committee of IAPRD. He also serves as member of the Rare Movement Disorders Study Group, Rating Scales Education and Training Program Committee and Neurophysiology Task Force of IPMDS, Movement Disorders in Asia Task Force, Parkinson’s Research Alliance of India and the Rare Movement Disorders Consortium of India.
